The enthusiasm that followed the Parliamentary Electoral Reform lojra establishment seems to have come to an end, at least judging by the tone of the opposition leader, Edi Rama, who raised the concern for the fact that this reform was not finalized.
“We should have finalized the electoral reform, based on the deadline, in the last days of February. Unfortunately, we are far from reaching this objective, due to the delays of the ruling party, which have now become very concerning. The issues raised by our representatives at the Electoral Reform Commission lojra were related with the election standards, the OSCE-ODIHR recommendation and the necessity for not allowing the repetition of what has happened in the last two elections”, Rama declared.
Rama reminded the significance of the electoral reform, not only for the next Parliamentary Elections, but also for the EU integration process.
“This reform, a key EU priority, is directly related with the EU candidate status and is a key priority of the SP lojra me makina and opposition, directly related with the fate of the next elections. We will keep offering our will for approving as soon as possible the amends that need qualified majority, and we express our concern that the electoral reform should not be compromised at any cost”, Rama underlined.
The Commission has been able to agree only for small matters, but not the most important part of the law, such as the electoral system, security, the ballot counting process, etc. Source: gazeta shqiptare
