LVS stands for Linux Virtual Server. Why we use the name of Linux Virtual Server? Clients interact with the cluster system as if it were a single high-performance virtual server, and this piece of load balancing software was written in the Linux, so we call it Linux Virtual Server.
As an advanced load balancing solution, LVS can be used to build highly scalable and highly available network services, such as scalable web, cache, mail, ftp, media and VoIP services.
