VIP stands for Virtual IP address in cluster system. The virtual IP address is visible to external users, and it is single entry point to access cluster service. Users do not have to know the other IP addresses used in the cluster system.

In the system of primary and backup load balancer configuration, the virtual IP address will float between primary and backup load balancer when failover happens.
