Long-term Care and also the Sandwich Generation

Long-term care may be the 800 pound gorilla in the family room. I hear about it in the line in the supermarket, in the elevator, in the mall, at church and on videos. Everyone my age is facing it, also it isn't ours we're facing, today.

I'm of the age group called the boomer or sandwich generation. Sandwich meaning we've responsibilities for multiple family members. However, we are not the first one to be faced with this phenomenon, but being boomers, we're probably the first to add a reputation to this huge predicament.

Boomers have altered the paradigms that we address dilemmas in lots of arenas and I think we'll rewrite our understanding on this one.

Here are a few of the problems.

Our wonderful healthcare system, good food and several modern conveniences have contributed to an existence expectancy which is longer than ever. Therefore during the last of our healthy and productive years, whenever we should be saving that last little bit of money we will need in the future, or paying down our mortgages, or recuperating from losses in the stock exchange, traveling or enjoying our grandchildren, a lot of us have parents who're still living, and though less strong as they once were, are still healthy. At the same time we have adult children who are building their own futures and families and want a little help now and then.

While reflecting upon the prior generations and how they took proper care of each other, I came to the realization our ancestors, along with living closer together, had businesses of their own, while most people today have careers that take us for an office, factory, hospital or school building. Our grandparents were active participants in the free enterprise system owning farms, stores, ranches, as well as other type of business. The reason so many of us are having trouble, is that we don't own our very own businesses. Not many jobs offer flexibility of time and place to permit involvement in multigenerational obligations and privileges.

That is why I started looking for a career that would permit me to operate as much as my Type A personality requires and doing so round the needs of a multigenerational family.

What provided that chance to me?

It was the web and having an internet business. Through an online business gives flexibility of both some time and space to become active in the lives of the 92-year-old or perhaps a 6-year-old and every age in-between.

Building your own business advertising online will permit you to definitely be in which you need to be when you really need to be there together with being able to support yourself while doing so. Whatever product you're selling, working on-line opens many avenues of flexibility for you.
